The Los Angeles Galaxy seemed to be in the spotlight again for the last few weeks and just like two years ago it all centered on David Beckham.  On loan since December 29, 2008 to AC Milan, Becks made it quite clear that he didn’t want to return to the Galaxy.  Who could blame him as Los Angeles failed to make the playoffs the last two seasons.

As the Columbus Crew were crowned MLS Cup Champions in 2008, soccer fans have been waiting since the end of November for a little taste of the 2009 season.  With the first game still two months away, fans were given a preview of the upcoming season by way of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft being held in the St. Louis Convention Center in St. Louis, MO.  St. Louis is one of six cities being considered for expansion in the MLS for 2009 Being the new kid in school, the new franchise, Seattle Sounders FC was awarded first pick and chose Generation adidas forward, Steve Zakuani. As a player at the University of Akron, he tallied 43 goals in 44 games and for 2008 scored 20 goals, the most in 2008 in the NCAA.

(14 de noviembre de 2008)– Volkswagen de America, conjuntamente con la Major League Soccer (MLS), realizaron el lanzamiento reciente de “El Rumbo a la Copa MLS”; un recorrido que se desarrolla en diversas ciudades donde se presenta el nuevo diseño del trofeo de la Copa MLS, bautizado en honor al visionario del fútbol, Philip F. Anschutz ante el público. El recorrido, que abarca tres estados, es conducido por Volkswagen, cuyos vehículos Routan, Jetta TDI, Rabbit y CC constituyen la flota oficial de la Copa MLS que lleva el trofeo a los aficionados. “El Rumbo a la Copa MLS” culminará en Los Ángeles, con motivo de la final de campeonato, la Copa MLS, a celebrarse el 23 de noviembre.

As Cub fans mourned that their beloved team got swept under the Los Angeles rug, the windy city soccer fans had reason to cheer as their Chicago Fire footballers tied the Columbus Crew 2-2.  The tie gave the Fire the one point they needed to secure a second place spot in the Eastern Conference and most importantly a playoff seat for the 2008 MLS Cup.
