Fitness First Plus: We Invite You

fitness_1stAs Americans navigate through one of the worst economic times in our nation’s history, picking a health club may not be on the top of the priority list. But it should be, and Fitness First Plus Heath Club at 849 Avenue of the Cities in East Moline has made some changes in the last few months to show that they are evolving with the times as they continue to provide a safe and diverse place to get in better shape mentally and physically.
   

The Easter Bunny is coming to the American Legion

The Easter Bunny is coming to the American Legion 829-16th Avenue East Moline on 4 April 2009, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  The purpose is to collect plush bunnies that will be delivered to area nursing homes.
   

Elim Men’s Group Outflowing

In the month of January, Elim Covenant Church was studying Outflow. Outflow was a study based off the book by Steve Sjogren and David Ping with the same title.
   

Consulado Móvil de Chicago regresa a Moline

El Centro Cultural Casa Guanajuato hace de su conocimiento que el Consulado Móvil de Chicago estará de nuevo en los Quad Cities del Miércoles, 29 de abril hasta El Sábado, 2 de mayo en el Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, localizado en el 1201 13th street en Moline, Illinois. 
Esta será la única visita que hará el Consulado Móvil de Chicago a los Quad Cities este año. El año pasado ellos hicieron dos visitas.
   

Flores-Figueroa Takes Case to Supreme Court

The case previously reported in this paper of an East Moline resident who appealed his charge of identity theft on grounds of exploitation was heard by the National Supreme Court, according to reports from the Chicago Tribune and the Associated Press. Judges appeared sympathetic to Ignacio Carlos Flores-Figueroa, whose case has been bouncing amidst the circuit courts for some time.
   

Mayor of East Moline John Thodos seeks re-election

thodos.jpgNot all immigrants come from Mexico, although the media often portrays this picture, the truth is that all American immigrants come from a place other than the United States. East Moline Mayor John Thodos, who’s roots are in Greece, remembers the story well of how his family came to be in the Quad Cities. Xristos Theodorakopoulos or Chris Thodos for short, is Mayor Thodos’s grandfather. Chris Thodos left Greece on a steam ship in 1911.  He had $20 in his pocket, went through Ellis Island, and established himself in East Moline, IL. The Thodos family has called it home ever since.
   

Getting bilingual help in Sterling

raquelherrera.jpgMaria is a young Hispanic, single mother, pregnant and unemployed. In her past few months of pregnancy she doesn’t have the essentials to welcome her baby. For her the most difficult thing is she doesn’t speak English and she didn’t know where to go to seek help. WIC, Women, Infants, and Children, gives out food vouchers, nutritional advice, takes care of the vaccination of her future baby amongst other types of help, however this young one would need a lot more.
