IRS Tax: Ten Last Minute Filing Tips

• With the tax filing deadline close at hand, the IRS offers ten tips for those still working on their tax returns:

1. File Electronically - Consider filing electronically instead of using paper tax forms. If you file electronically and choose direct deposit, you can receive your refund in as few as 10 days.

   

Republican National Committee Elects African-American Chairman

The first African American in history to head the RNC was elected last Friday amidst a re-working of the party platform to become more accessible to emerging voting blocks, such as African Americans and Latinos. Michael Steele, the new chairman, is Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. In his interview with FOX News, he claimed that the real problem was not so much the Republican Party’s immigration position itself as the presentation of that position.
   

Blagojevich Impeached

Former Governor Rod Blagojevich was formally impeached last week by a unanimous Illinois Senate vote of 59-0. During the seven hours of debate, not one Senator defended the Governor, said a report from the Chicago Tribune. Another unanimous vote banned him from ever again holding a public office, effectively ending the Governor’s political career. Lt. Gov. Patrick Quinn was shortly after sworn in as Governor.
   

Richardson Resigns Cabinet Appointment

Hilda Solis accepts nomination
